Dear Winding Vista Members,
Even though the great winter storm of 2011 is still fresh in all of our minds, the beginning of the Winding Vista Swim and Tennis summer season will be here before we know it. The Winding Vista board has been working hard this off season to jump start the season, and I thank them for their assistance in keeping Winding Vista Swim and Tennis one of the best facilities in our area.
Board Member Changes
First of all, I want to thank Erin Johnston, Arthur Hufford and Erin Moreau for their time and effort during their duration on the Winding Vista Board. Without their help, the club would not have been able to operate nearly as well as it has. To fill the open positions on the board, the membership voted in Ashley Lengkeek and Casey Coyne at our annual meeting in the fall. The following is the list of members who currently serve on the board.

Pool Manager Report
Kirk Lunde will remain our Pool Manager in 2011, and will continue to build our relationship with the pool management company, Sweetwater. The pool manager position requires a significant amount of effort each year, and we are very fortunate to have Kirk keeping us all in line. We had a very successful 2010 pool season, and we hope to continue into 2011.
Treasurer Report
As had been forecasted last year, the club dipped into its reserves to cover a number of expenses incurred in 2010. The primary reason for our budget overruns during the year were due to nearly $20,000 in unplanned expenses including HVAC unit replacement, general pool maintenance and the removal of a number of "suspect" trees throughout the property. For 2011, the board has approved a budget that will focus on adding back to the reserve and setting aside for unplanned emergencies. If you have any questions about the budget, feel free to contact Ray Kuniansky, Treasurer - 770-938-7721 or

Membership Dues
Over the coming three years, we expect that a number of large expenses will be incurred at the club specifically for the pool. The largest of these is due to our pool liner needing to be replaced in either 2012 or 2013 which is expected to be a $30K to $50K expense. Our goal is to be able to pay for these items without requiring a new special assessment like the one that just expired last year, and to be able to pay out of our reserve. To do this and continue to operate the club, the board has decided to make three primary changes. First, we have voted to increase New Member initiation fees from $500 to $600 effective this year. Based on an assessment of other local clubs, this is in line with what they are charging for initiation fees. The Board has also voted to increase dues for 2011 from $440 to $480 which, based on that same assessment of other clubs, still keeps Winding Vista as one of the most affordable Swim and Tennis clubs in the area. Keep in mind that the special assessment that has been part of your yearly dues has expired, so this dues increase will not result in any additional out of pocket expense over 2010 for your family. Finally, the Board is requesting that the membership approve a proposed By-Law change that will allow for the maximum number of member families at the club to be increased from 265 to 275. Through these three initiatives, we are hopeful that the club can continue to operate at a high level, cover these large anticipated expenses and minimize the impact to our membership over the next few years.
The deadline for payment of dues is March 1, 2011. After that date, a $50.00 late fee will be imposed. Your prompt payment of annual dues is appreciated. If for any reason you are not planning to renew your membership, we need to hear from you either in writing at the Winding Vista P.O. Box or via email to Ray Kuniansky, Treasurer (

Swim Team News
Our vipers had an excellent 2010 season, and are already looking forward to 2011. Stephanie Spencer will join returning coach Ross Phillips as co-coach, and registration will start in late February. We are planning an open house for our new families, and keep in mind that the team welcomes ANY and ALL families - no experience required! More details to come!
I hope that Winding Vista Swim and Tennis continues to meet and exceed the expectations of your family, and you continue to use the facility as a way to rest and relax throughout the year. If there is ever a time that your expectations are not being met, please do not hesitate to reach out to me or a member of the board. We are all looking forward to a great season.
All the best,
Matt Evans
